Theories on Kingdom Hearts 2: Return of the Insane.

Yes, Squaresoft has already announced that Kingdom Hearts 2 will be created. They even offered us two trailers to confuse us. The ending to the game is also very open ended and gives us a lot to chew on. We will be analyzing and theorizing according to trailers and then info that can be found in the elusive script. As a disclaimer, none of the theories or info here is confirmed by any official people. This is solely OUR ideas of what might happen. We could be right on or dead wrong, but at least this will keep us amused until the game comes out.

Trailer One: Another Side, Another Story.

HERE WE GO! The first thing you see is an Unknown coming out, you can wisps of his hair and his chin, but not the eyes. He seems to be walking in a very lit metropoliton. He then gets attacked by Neo-Heartless. The camera shifts and moves up. If you notice, the TV screens show a picture of Kairi from the first game as it goes up to focus on another Unknown, who's not so unknown. The guy on the top of the tower is Riku. Apparently he has another body, but can't see, or is ashamed of his eyes which he keeps bandaged. The Unknown at the bottom then pulls out two keyblades in order to fight the Heartless. These Keyblades are the Promise Key and the Oblivion. This indicates that this person has to have at least met Sora, or he might be Sora himself. There is a better argument for him being Sora when analyzing the second trailer and not the first. In the background, Riku looks to the sky, and there are falling stars everywhere. Worlds are disappearing again. The Unknown-Sora on the bottom then has a Heartless symbol burned on the ground. Riku takes his eye-band off, and the Unknown-Sora asks where Sora is. (isn't this confusing?) A lot of words float out and then you see an older Kairi looking out at a huge falling star.

This first section gives us a lot to think about. First off, we have one Unknown figure, who looks like Sora and also has 2 of the 3 Keyblades. But apparently this Sora is looking for another Sora and also seems to be possessed by the darkness. Confusing, yes. But this Unknown HAS to be Sora, as we'll see in the second trailer.

Trailer 2: Deep Dive.

Okay, the second trailer starts off with the Sora that we love and know. He's at a crossroads which looks to come from the fields at the end of the first game. This Sora is lost. And then an image of a bottle with a note wash up onto a shore. Let's assume that this shore is that of Destiny Islands, because there are no other worlds that we know of with beaches. Except, during the pan out you get a scene of a dark world that seems to be seperate. Another Heartless world? And then, out of a beach rock another Unknown appears. We will call this Unknown, Unknown-X. Unknown-X has golden eyes. Similar to Ansem, but the identity is still "unknown". The scene then goes back to that of the first trailer with the Unknown-Sora goes into the metropoliton. Unknown-Sora suddenly comes out with the two recognizable Keyblades, the Promise and the Oblivion. He starts to fight the neo-Heartless that surround him, with two Keyblades (this is a great shot). If you notice all the techniques he uses, you can identify Strike Raid as one of them, even if it is in the air. Then you'll get a shot of the Unknown-Riku and you can definitely tell that it's him. Unknown-Sora will look up and start to fight his way up towards Riku. Then Unknown-Sora will do Strike Raid again, this time throwing the Oblivion at Riku who will catch it as it falls and the two of them will pass by each other. If you notice, Unknown Sora will have another Keyblade to replace the lost one, this is the same Keyblade that King Mickey had at the end of Kingdom Hearts, the colors of gold and silver are inverted from Sora's. Lots of flashy scenes with text, which will be written in a different section. Then suddenly Mickey pops out! This time he has the original Keyblade. Then, back to the Island Unknown, the Unknown-X and another Unknown-Y meet. And one comments to the other, "He looks just like you." The last shot is of Sora floating over the sea, asleep, as though he were lost.

Real Theories:

How many Unknowns are there?

The answer is pretty complicated. We have to theorize that there is the original Unknown in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix who you fight. We're actually pretty certain that this Unknown isn't Ansem. We know that there were two Unknowns in the first Trailer, but it is pretty certain that the one on top of the building is Riku and the one fighting the Heartless is Sora. That leaves the second trailer where there is mysterious scene found at the island. There is then the Golden-eyed Unknown we titled X and the other Unknown he meets we title Y. It is highly possible that Unknown X is actually Riku without his bandages on, and Unknown Y is Sora. Sora went to go look for Riku after the end of the first game and he also knows that Riku lost his body. The golden eyes could easily be a leftover from Ansem's possession of Riku's body, and as Riku might be ashamed of his previous actions, he keeps them hidden.

What happened to Sora?

We are given two different images of Sora, first the old Sora we know is floating around like he's lost his heart or is just plain lost. The second hint we have is that Unknown-Sora-Y is actually related to Sora, or at least has all of Sora's abilities and all the Keyblades. Theories could be that Sora's heart was lost or taken and he can't seem to find his way back, a la Riku while his body was taken over as well. But this wouldn't explain the affinity of Unknown-Riku-X with Unknown-Sora-Y. Another idea is presented in a very small passage in Atlantica. King Triton mentioned that the Keyblade master only brings ruin and destruction to the worlds that he visits. There are also mentions of a great heart to which everything returns to and also for those without hearts to consume all other hearts until the "dark door" is opened. This dark Sora may be after opening that last door beyond just Kingdom Hearts.

What happened to Kairi?

Kairi appears to be left on Destiny Islands, though it is possible that she might go out of there to seek Sora and Riku. However, it's rather doubtful because she is only a princess of heart and also they need a warm home to come back to.

Why are there so many Keyblades?

Maleficent was wrong in thinking that there was only one Keyblade. Even Mickey was wrong to think that there was only 2. If you go through both trailers you find that there are actually 4 different keyblades out there. The original Kingdom keys that both Sora and Mickey were originally equipped with and also two other keys that Sora picks up, the Promise Key and also the Oblivion. We know that Mickey isn't actually a Keyblade master. He can't open the doors to anything. Rather Sora and Riku are the two main Keyblade Masters that will reunite all worlds. One is light and the other is darkness. That is why they can utilize the power of darkness or withstand it etc etc. Riku was not wrong in thinking that he was the master, the only problem is that none of them ever thought there could possibly be more than one. With four keys things become a bit more confusing. Sora also has Mickey's key and Mickey apparently got a hold of Sora's key. Things went kind of crazy, you assume.

We'll write more when we come up with more and analyze all the data we gained from Final Mix.

End: ???
